WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – Much calmer weather is ahead for now in Kansas as road conditions improve a bit and the coldest air eases up. Melting will still be limited, but highs could be near or above freezing by midweek before another chance for snow arrives Thursday night. The next storm system won’t be anything like this weekend’s event.
Look for increasing clouds on Tuesday with scattered flurries over far western Kansas. It may be a little heavier in Colorado, but it’s not a major winter storm. Highs Tuesday will be in the teens and 20s with more clouds than sunshine.
Wednesday will bring more sun with highs in the 20s and 30s. It remains coldest over the deepest snow, but wind speeds should remain under 15 mph. The system to watch is coming Thursday evening with light snow spreading in from Oklahoma. It could be around Friday morning too, but expectations on snow accumulations are light in many areas. Right now, up to two inches look possible over southern Kansas Thursday night and early Friday before moving away by the afternoon. Freezing rain and ice is not likely with the next round of wintry weather and the wind speeds should remain under 20 while it’s snow, so no blizzard conditions to content with either…
