Kansas state offices to close for Day of Mourning, here’s when

TOPEKA, Kan. ( KSNT ) – Kansas Governor Laura Kelly is declaring a Day of Mourning to honor former President Jimmy Carter.

Kelly made the announcement on Dec. 31 that she signed an executive order declaring Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025, to be a Day of Mourning for Carter following his death. State of Kansas offices will be closed for this day. A copy of Kelly’s order can be found below.

Kelly’s order coincides with one declared by President Joe Biden earlier in the month. State of Kansas offices will reopen on Friday, Jan. 10, 2025.
