For the second time in as many weeks, Travis Kelce of the Chiefs had his connection with quarterback Patrick Mahomes working. After loading up with 90 yards on 10 catches in Week 8, Kelce came back and topped that number in Week 9, logging 14 catches and tying a “Monday Night Football” record in doing so.
Kelce finished the game with 100 yards, and the Chiefs pulled out a thrilling 30-24 win over Tampa Bay to move to 8-0 on the year. Kansas City has a two-game lead over every team in the AFC, and only one other team (the Lions) has one loss.
Alas, for Kelce, the gaudy numbers did not mean much. As he admitted on Wednesday’s episode of teh “New Heights” podcast with his brother, Jason Kelce, he did see himself as having a particularly good game.
One thing that stuck with Kelce was a dropped pass early in the third quarter, after he’d fumbled late in the first half, with the Chiefs having taken the ball into Buccaneers territory. Jason Kelce was surprised that his brother had dropped a pass. “I did,” Travis said. “It was right after I fumbled the ball.”…
