Driver, high on fentanyl, who hit girl boarding school bus sentenced to 10 years in prison

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A driver high on fentanyl who hit a girl boarding a school bus in June has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Melanie Mudd, 31, pleaded guilty to causing serious bodily injury when operating a vehicle with a Schedule I or II substance in her system in November. A previous charge of passing a school bus with the stop arm extended was dismissed.

News 8 previously reported that on June 26, Mudd was driving in her Jeep Wrangler on East Washington Street near Kitley Avenue when she passed a school bus with its stop arm extended, hitting and seriously wounding a 13-year-old girl boarding the bus.
