Columbia, SC –A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for South Carolina, including areas near the I-20 corridor, starting Friday afternoon. The National Weather Service (NWS) upgraded the previous Winter Storm Watch due to increasing confidence in impactful ice accumulations.
According to the NWS Columbia, ice accumulation could reach up to 0.5 inches in some areas. Counties north of Columbia, including Newberry and Camden, are at higher risk for significant ice buildup. Areas just south of the I-20 corridor remain under a Winter Weather Advisory, with ice totals expected between 0.1 and 0.25 inches.
The storm is expected to begin Friday morning, intensifying into the evening hours and tapering off overnight. Ice-covered roads, downed power lines, and tree damage are likely in affected areas. Travel conditions could deteriorate rapidly by late Friday.…
