Man indicted, allegedly choked, punched Elmira woman

ELMIRA, N.Y. ( WETM ) — A man was indicted after authorities say he violated an order of protection and assaulted an Elmira woman.

A Chemung County Grand Jury indicted Joshua D. Beheler on the charges of second-degree burglary (a class C felony), first-degree criminal contempt (a class E felony), second-degree criminal contempt (a class A misdemeanor), and criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation (a class A misdemeanor).

Beheler’s charges stem from a Dec. 16 incident. The Chemung County District Attorney’s Office stated that Beheler either entered or stayed inside an Elmira woman’s home with the intent to commit a crime. The woman had an active order of protection against Beheler.

The indictment stated that Beheler punched the woman and choked her. He also reportedly applied pressure to the woman’s throat or neck with the intent to impede breathing or blood circulation…
