JPD, Homeland Security will be in place for JSU parade

JACKSON, Miss. ( WJTV ) – The City of Jackson is preparing to celebrate Jackson State University’s (JSU) 2024 Celebration Bowl win with a parade on Friday, January 17.

Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade wants the citizens to come out and enjoy the parade and festivities while also feeling safe. He said the Jackson Police Department (JPD) will be fully staffed for the event, along with Homeland Security, Capitol police and Hinds County deputies.

Which roads will be closed for the JSU National Champions Parade?

“I am committed to make sure this is a safe event. I’ve lost count of how many preparation meetings we’ve had. Proper preparation prevents poor performance, all hands-on deck. It is going to be the safest place probably in the southeast region. Come out. Please support. Let’s celebrate Jackson State University’s football team and their historic victory at the Celebration Bowl,” said Wade.

He said JPD will also be out in full force on Saturday, January 18 for the Annual Martin Luther King Parade.
