Best Defense Foundation brings local WWII veteran back to where he served

POINT PLEASANT — Private First Class Fred J. Nungesser Jr., 99, recently joined fellow World War II veterans on a trip back to the Netherlands, where he and other members of his company crossed over into enemy territory almost 80 years ago.

Earlier in September, Nungesser, a longtime Point Pleasant resident, joined several other veterans with The Best Defense Foundation as they were treated to an all-expense paid trip back to Europe.

The Best Defense Foundation honors and celebrates veterans from past conflicts and those who have recently retired. The foundation is driven by volunteers and people who are passionate about supporting military veterans and their families. According to its website, “Team members hail from all parts of the U.S. and Europe, but are united by one simple goal: Taking Care of the Ones Who Took Care of Us.”…
