Defense wants key evidence tossed in Sayreville councilwoman’s murder case

NEW BRUNSWICK – A gun found in the home of a Virginia man charged with the shooting death of a Sayreville councilwoman could be a key piece of evidence when the case goes to trial next year.

But first a judge will decide if the gun and anything else seized during the execution of a search warrant at Rashid Ali Bynum’s home can be entered as evidence.

Bynum has been charged with the Feb. 1, 2023 murder of Sayreville Councilwoman Eunice Dwumfour in her car, parked outside her borough home, just minutes after her daughter got out of the vehicle. Cartridge cases of 9mm bullets were reportedly found at the scene. The case is scheduled to go to trial in April 2025. No motive for the killing has been announced…
