Officials with the Gowanda Central School District are defending the district’s budgeting practices in the wake of a recent audit from New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli’s Office. The district released a statement Tuesday in response to the audit, which determined that the district did not adopt realistic budgets by overestimating appropriations, appropriating a fund balance that was not needed, and not correctly managing reserves from 2020-2023.
Superintendent Robert Anderson said, “Sometimes we make decisions that result in the district spending less than we anticipate.
