N.Y. weather: DSNY issues snow alert ahead of Sunday’s winter storm

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) has issued a snow alert for Sunday, Jan. 19, starting at 7 a.m. and continuing until 2 a.m. Monday, marking the first storm this winter to warrant such an alert.

According to a release from Gov. Kathy Hochul, the current forecast suggests that precipitation may start as a wintry mix at 7 a.m. before turning to snow by noon. Some areas of the city may see up to two inches of snow by 4 p.m., with precipitation expected to stop by 2 a.m. Monday.

“In order to prepare for this plowable snow event, the entirety of New York’s Strongest will be working on 12-hour shifts beginning at midnight Sunday,” DSNY said in an advisory…
