A New Jersey hunter has set a new record in the state’s black bear hunt. Brian Melvin, of West Orange, spent three seasons tracking this behemoth – which weighed 770 pounds. Melvin killed the bear with his bow and arrow Tuesday morning in Kinnelon. Archers get one week to hunt bears in New Jersey. Melvin says Fish and Wildlife officials told him that his harvest is the largest of any archer in state bear hunt history. He will use the bear’s meat for food and plans to have it mounted.
