Animal shelter urges pet owners to protect pets from cold

ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. — The Elizabethton Carter County Animal Shelter has received multiple calls about pets being kept outside as frigid temperatures blanket the region.

Shannon Posada, the animal shelter director, said the animal control officer has been busy conducting welfare checks on animals left out in the cold. Posada emphasized the importance of bringing pets inside during such cold temperatures.

“If your animals are outside and you have no choice than to leave them outside and not bring them inside, always make sure, especially in these cold temperatures, that they have extra food, they have water that’s not frozen,” Posada said. “Make sure they have a proper house consisting of two sides, a floor and a roof that’s not leaking.”…
