West Palm Beach (CBS12 News) — Palm Beach County will be the ‘Center of the Running Universe’ this weekend, on a National and International level. 41 States and 28 countries will be represented at this year’s Garden of Life Palm Beaches Marathon, which will be the biggest event yet. There will be twice as many registered runners as last year, with ‘marathon culture’ skyrocketing and so many more runners looking for competitive and scenic races to take part in.
More than 45-hundred athletes are slated to take part, with more walk up runners expected, all enjoying the party-like atmosphere that former Honda Classic Executive Director Ken Kennerly has helped create every December on Flagler Dr. Downtown, with the race also flowing through historic areas and quaint neighborhoods.
“What happened through COVID is running became popular again,” explains the owner of the Garden of Life Palm Beaches Marathon Ken Kennerly. “The entire industry is up close to fifty percent, all of these marathon races. Our destination is attractive. People love coming tp the Palm Beaches. The fact that we run up and down the Inter-Coastal, it’s one of the prettiest races people will run, (and) the fact that our half marathon was ranked in the top ten of a runner’s guide (just a couple years ago).”…
