Brightline reviving South Florida commuter pass it killed in 2024

Brightline will revive its South Florida commuter program, which it killed in 2024, thanks to a $33.8 million grant from the Biden administration, the private passenger rail company has said.

Brightline plans to restart the program in March but has yet to reveal prices or how long the it would last. The company’s statement issued Friday, Jan. 10 indicates the service could be temporary. Brightline will spend its Federal Railroad Administration grant buying new passenger cars, which give it more available seats to sell to South Florida commuters.

“We’ll roll out details over the next few weeks,” Brightline spokesman Ben Porritt said Monday. The company’s statement described its offering as a “bridge or interim plan before Brightline and local counties are able to establish commuter lines in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties.”

Brightline South Florida deal that ended in June 2024 was $10 a ride

Brightline used to offer a package of 40 trips to and from any station in Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties for $399 a month, effectively a $10-per-trip deal. Brightline ended that June 1.
