46 years after woman vanished, renewed hope for answers

PAW PAW, Mich. (WOOD) — Investigators believe they’re one step closer to solving the disappearance of 28-year-old Joyce Fisher from Van Buren County nearly 50 years ago.

That’s because the lone suspect in Joyce’s 1978 vanishing — her estranged husband Jerry Wayne Fisher — is scheduled to stand trial next month in a murder case four states away.

“I would be shocked if he doesn’t get found guilty and goes to prison for the rest of his life,” said Van Buren County Sheriff Dan Abbott in an interview with Target 8. “It’s our hope that after that takes place, (witnesses in Joyce’s case) will come forward who are afraid to come forward right now because they’re afraid for their life. I mean, the guy’s on trial down there for a homicide, (and) I don’t question … that he killed Joyce back in 1978.”
