PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) — As families flock to the stores with just days left until Christmas, a Western Michigan University professor says there are still some unknowns when it comes to how the tariffs threatened by President-elect Donald Trump could impact next year’s holiday shopping.
In a Truth Social post last month, the president-elect threatened to impose a 25% tariff on products coming from Canada and Mexico.

“It is of interest that in Trump and his administration coming in, there’s people who are well familiar with tariffs and worked with it before. So I certainly think that it’s going to be an important part of the policies of Trump II,” said Professor Marcel Zondag, director of WMU’s supply chain management program.
