West Michigan lineman flips commitment from WMU to Big Ten team

COOPERSVILLE, MI – For the second consecutive year, Coopersville High School will be sending an offensive lineman to the Big Ten.

J.J. Hirdes, Coopersville’s senior right tackle, decommitted from Western Michigan University on Monday and announced his commitment to the University of Illinois later that day.

“First off, I’d like to thank coach (Trevor) Mendelson, coach (Lance) Taylor and the entire Western Michigan staff for all they did for me,” Hirdes wrote in a social media post. “I truly appreciate the hospitality they showed, as well as them giving me the opportunity to play football at the Division-I level. I wish the program the best of luck in the future…
