One of the metro’s oldest churches is getting a much-needed renovation

PARKVILLE, Mo. (KCTV) – Washington Chapel Church is one of the oldest buildings in the metro. In fact, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.

The church first opened in 1907. The building is now getting some much-needed renovations thanks to the African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund. It’s a program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, which helps preserve historically black churches.

In total, 550 organizations applied for money, but only 31 were awarded funds, including Washington Chapel Church. The original plan was to replace the roof and make bathrooms ADA-accessible. With help from volunteers, a lot more work will be completed…
