What it takes to pull off Ward Parkway neighborhood Christmas light display

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – There’s a stretch just east of Ward Parkway from 68th Street on south that turns into a tourist attraction this time of year. Lights line houses, adorn lawns and span the sky across the streets in thought-out themes block by block.

And it’s growing. One block, Arno Road, joined in the decades-long tradition only three years ago, and this year they went big.

“What we could afford was 69,000 light bulbs and so we’ve got them zig-zagging back and forth 20 feet in the air so that no trucks would hit them,” said block resident Dr. Jimbo Aylward. “We learned the hard way that you’ve got to get up there. There are some big tour buses that come by.”…
