A man was fatally shot by a Houston police officer after allegedly trying to grab the officer’s gun during a scuffle this morning in northeast Houston. According to Click2Houston, the incident took place near the intersection of Caddo Street and Homestead Road, just before 8 a.m. when officers responded to reports of a man breaking windows and slashing tires.
The situation escalated after officers, who sought to detain the suspect, became involved in a pursuit as the subject attempted to evade arrest, a pursuit that led to a brief chase followed by a physical altercation. During the confrontation, the suspect “tried reaching for an officer’s gun” which resulted in another officer on the scene discharging their weapon two times, striking and killing the man, as reported by Click2Houston.
The deceased has not been identified but is estimated to be in his 30s or 40s. No officers were injured during the incident, and as part of standard procedure, the police officer who fired the fatal shots has been placed on administrative leave. This officer was described as 30 years old with five and a half years of service.
