Whooping cough cases surge sixfold nationwide, Houston area sees significant spike

HOUSTON — With the holidays still in full swing, a surge in pertussis cases, also known as whooping cough, has health officials on high alert including here at home.

According to the CDC, whooping cough cases are at a decade high level, reporting there are six times as many cases this year compared to last year.

On Friday, Harris County Public Health shared with KHOU 11 its latest numbers, reporting currently there are 52 cases in Harris County, which is nearly twice as many compared to 2023, when there were 27 cases…
