In a late-night encounter that spiraled into an urgent medical situation, Pierce County deputies apprehended a suspect involved in multiple crimes, including possession of a stolen vehicle and a medley of other warrants. The incident began near 8900 Riverside Drive in Sumner when deputies spotted the stolen vehicle and attempted to pull it over, only to trigger a short-lived chase that concluded on foot, a Pierce County Sheriff’s Department Blog reported.

The pursuit came to an abrupt end at 74th St E and 166th Ave E, where the male suspect darted from the vehicle, leaving behind a female passenger. Amidst the chaos, the suspect – disregarding warnings from the deputy – continued to reach into his pockets as he fled. His attempt at escape proved futile, surrendering to authorities in a nearby field after admitting to ingesting pills, the deputies’ report detailed.

Subsequently, while being escorted to the patrol vehicle, the suspect began to show signs of a drug overdose. The deputies administered Narcan and placed him in the recovery position. Originally cooperative, the suspect’s demeanor took a volatile turn upon the arrival of the fire department, where he became aggressive and uncooperative, loudly claiming he had no warrants. Yet, with the discovery of his last name inked on his skin, and following some detective work at the hospital, the deputies discovered the man’s true identity – along with his concealed narcotics and numerous outstanding warrants…
