EPA to cover cost of water line extension

CAIRO, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — Plans to extend a water supply line and provide clean water to more people in Greene County are moving forward. The Environmental Protection Agency has agreed to cover the cost of connecting the public water supply line to the Country Estates Mobile Home Park and Scotch Rock Road in Cairo.

The county will pay the initial cost of the engineering analysis to find out how much the project will cost.

Community members have voiced concerns about contamination in private wells that are located near the site of a former thermostat manufacturing plant. Testing has shown there are no chemicals in the water wells, but the EPA warns there could be toxins under the factory.
