Florida men sentenced for tax fraud scheme involving over $3 million in false refunds

ORLANDO, Florida — Two Florida men have been sentenced for their roles in a tax fraud scheme known as the “Note Program.” Jasen Harvey, of Tampa, received a 48-month prison sentence, while Christopher Johnson, of Orlando, was sentenced to 37 months.

From 2015 to 2018, Harvey and Johnson conspired to promote a scheme that involved preparing tax returns with large, nonexistent income tax withholdings, resulting in fraudulent refund claims, according to court documents. The IRS paid approximately $1.5 million of the over $3 million in fraudulent refunds claimed. Both men were also ordered to serve three years of supervised release and pay restitution—$864,117.42 for Johnson and $785,858.42 for Harvey, according to the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida…
