MOBILE, Ala. ( WKRG ) — A manatee rescued last week in the Theodore Industrial Canal of Mobile Bay is now recovering at SeaWorld Orlando, according to the Dauphin Island Sea Lab.
According to a news release from the sea lab, a local fisherman spotted the male manatee in the canal on Tuesday, Dec. 17.

The sea lab’s Manatee Sighting Network and the Alabama Marine Mammal Stranding Network responded and determined they needed to intervene.
“The animal was skinny and had some skin discoloration that are signs of cold stress and was staying at the surface, not leaving the area, making rescue a good option,” DISL/MSN Director Dr. Ruth H. Carmichael said. “We are always concerned about cold-stress related mortality this time of year when water temperatures can be too cold for manatees to survive in Alabama.”…
