PORTLAND, Ore. — Firefighters from around Oregon are mobilizing to California to help with several large wildfires burning in the Los Angeles area.
Since the fires fueled by high winds broke out, at least two people have died and more than 1,000 structures have been destroyed. At least 70,000 people are under evacuation orders, though officials say that number may continually change.
The Oregon State Fire Marshal (OSFM) has mobilized 12 strike teams to California so far. The teams are from Clackamas, Clatsop, Central Oregon, Lane, Lincoln, Linn/Polk, Marion, Multnomah, Rogue Valley, Washington and Yamhill counties. They’re made up of 240 firefighters and 60 engines.
