Construction, road work impacting East Tennessee drivers this weekend

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — As interstates in Tennessee begin to reopen after Helene’s flooding, several construction projects are expected to impact drivers in East Tennessee this weekend. WATE’s Bo Williams has what you need to know about road work expected this weekend.

On October 30, the Tennessee Department of Transportation reopened one lane in each direction on Interstate 26 in Unicoi County with some limitations . Commercial thru truck traffic that exceeds 12 feet in width will not be able to pass on the reopened section, instead having to stay on the official detour using I-81 and I-77.

To make the public aware of any ongoing construction projects, TDOT has released its weekly construction report for November 1 through Nov. 6. The listing includes lane closures and road construction activities for 24 East Tennessee counties.

In Knoxville, the Grainger Avenue intersection at North Broadway is closed from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. until November 5 to allow crews to installing a raised median island that will prohibit left turns from northbound N. Broadway to southbound Hall of Fame Drive.

Finally, Bernard Avenue/Elm Street between Marion Street and University Avenue in Knoxville will be closed for a year as crews replace a bridge along Interstate 275…
