Man sentenced to days in jail after deadly crash

LIMA — A man was sentenced to 180 days in jail with 150 days suspended and one year of probation Friday in Lima Municipal Court after a crash on U.S. Route 30 in May killed a woman.

According to a crash report from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, on May 3 around 5:47 p.m., Douglas White, 40, of Rocky Top, Tennessee, was traveling southbound on Defiance Trail. He stopped at the stop sign at the intersection of U.S. Route 30, continued straight across the westbound lanes, and attempted to continue straight across the eastbound lanes when he pulled out in front of Ted Powell, 67, of Van Buren, causing a collision. Powell’s vehicle came to rest in the roadway and White — who was driving a company vehicle owned by Vorst Paving in Cloverdale — went into a ditch.

A passenger in the vehicle Ted Powell was driving, Linda Powell, 44, of Lima, was pronounced dead at the hospital. Ted and another passenger, Jacquale Gabbard, 33, of Lima, were taken to the hospital with suspected serious injuries. White was not injured…
