MIDWAY, Ky. – Fresh off a sweep of IU Southeast Friday night in New Albany, the Cougars headed further south to battle the Eagles of Midway Saturday afternoon. IU Kokomo made it 16-straight wins with a sweep of Midway, making the Cougars 23-4 overall and 10-0 in River States Conference action.
The opening set of Saturday’s matinee inside Marshall Gymnasium was back-and-forth early on, as neither team could string together many points with IUK maintaining a narrow lead over halfway through. A quick 3-0 spurt from the Cougars extended the lead to six at 20-14, as IUK would go on to take set one 25-21. IU Kokomo won 11 of the first 15 points in the second set, as they stymied the Eagles in set two with a -.067 hitting percentage. Midway did utilize a 5-0 run to even the score at 17 apiece, Coach Hayes’s squad would end the set strong however, winning eight of the next 11 points for a 25-20 set two victory.
The Cougars were dominant in set three similar to the way they opened the second, this time refusing to let Midway climb back into it. Hitting .302% in the final set for their strongest offensive set of the match, IU Kokomo cruised to a 10-point set three victory and sweep of Midway…
