NYT: Comadre Panadería in Austin named top US bakery

Texas baker Mariela Camacho has moved around over the years, spending earlier days in San Antonio and later in Seattle and Austin, the latter of which is now home to her bakery concept Comadre Panadería . Over the Christmas holiday, The New York Times dropped its list of the best bakeries in the United States, and Camacho’s bakery made the cut.

Food reporter Priya Krishna wrote the entry for Comadre Panadería on T he New York Times list titled ” 22 of the Best Bakeries Across the U.S. Right Now .”

“Mariela Camacho’s pastries are the stuff of Barbie-fueled, masa-laden dreams. Her conchas are airy with a crackly shell, and bright with flavors like berries or matcha,” Krishna said in the article. “The showstopper is the pink cake: toasty with corn, tart with a prickly pear buttercream and delightful with sprinkles.”…
