L.A. officials urge against fireworks for New Year’s celebrations

With heightened fire danger due to low humidity and high winds, officials are urging residents to refrain from using fireworks for their New Year’s celebration.

“It’s critical this year, especially with the weather conditions that we have. We have higher-than-average temperatures. We have winds predicted to last throughout tonight and into tomorrow, and we have a very low relative humidity along with dry fuel. That is a combination of volatile fire conditions,” said L.A. County Fire Captain Sheila Kelliher-Berkoh.
