‘She didn’t feel safe’: Hawaii woman sent cryptic texts before California disappearance

The mysterious disappearance of a 30-year-old Hawaii woman, who missed a connecting flight at LAX and sent cryptic messages to her family last week, has led to an extensive search across Southern California. Hannah Kobayashi, a photographer from Maui, was flying from Hawaii to New York City via Los Angeles International Airport on Nov. 8. Kobayashi narrowly missed her connecting flight at LAX and left the airport; sometime later, she headed to the Grove retail complex, around 10 miles from the airport, according to police and her family.

She was seen twice at the Grove that weekend — at Taschen bookstore on Nov. 9, and again the following day on camera at a LeBron James Nike event — Kobayashi’s aunt, Larie Pidgeon, told USA Today .

The last photo posted on Kobayashi’s Instagram account appears to have been taken at the Nike event and shows a sign describing Nike’s consent policy on being photographed or filmed at the event. Footage of Kobayashi at LAX and the Grove has been shared with the public …
