LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – Rain is not entirely done with SWLA, although it look much less active heading into Saturday.
A few patches of fog are popping up this morning behind overnight rain, so make sure you exercise caution on the roadways!
A cold front stalling over the area Friday will keep around a chance to see some scattered showers. Coverage will be more scattered than Thursday though. After a partly sunny to cloudy morning, most activity is expected during the afternoon and early evening. A few storms are still possible as well, so keep an eye on your radar and keeping your rain gear handy just in case would be a good idea.
Rain chances decrease again on Saturday as the front pulls north! This means we’ll become warmer with highs in the mid 80’s expected with more sunshine. Moisture will begin to return on Sunday, and a couple afternoon showers will become possible again. Still, rain looks limited and overall, the weekend looks better for outdoor plans.
It won’t be long before another front will approach and likely stall near our region. This will cause rain chances to bump up a little with some spotty showers possible Monday. A better coverage of rain may again take place Tuesday as that front gets closer to SWLA.
Beyond that, there is uncertainty in the models whether that front fully moves through or does in fact stall near us. If it moves through fully, that would bring rain chances to an end and get some cooler and drier weather in place. We’ll keep an eye on trends this week.
The tropics are mostly quiet for now with a few areas of interest, but the one area to keep an eye on is in the southwestern Caribbean where broad low pressure may develop over the next several days. It may become a tropical depression over the weekend as it slowly drifts northward, so we will be watching it’s progress closely, but right now is not expected to be an issue for SWLA…
