Good help in the area of special education teachers is proving hard to find for Richmond Community Schools, a concern that the district’s school board sought to address via a third-party contract.
During a regular meeting on Oct. 28, the Richmond Community Schools Board of Education approved a contract with Gifted Healthcare Education. The approved motion accepted the recommendation of the superintendent to approve the contract in an effort to staff vacant special education teacher positions. It also specified the cost of the third-party teacher would vary depending on experience, certifications and timing of the contract.
“We did interview a candidate,” Superintendent Brian Walmsley said. “The candidate, the team liked and felt that would be a good fit. We are just seeing if they are going to accept the position and join. So if they don’t, we would be back to square one.”…
