Vice President and Democratic nominee Kamala Harris was in Farmington Hills last week for a live “United for America” livestream campaign event hosted by media mogul Oprah Winfrey.
The move, designed to galvanize suburban voters, happened in the same week that Republican nominee Donald Trump visited Flint to drum up support for his candidacy.
Flint, a city known for its lead water scandal and much like Detroit, is one of the key urban centers of Michigan. It has all the makings of a struggling urban city — from unemployment to crime.
That the Democratic nominee would visit the state and not go to Flint or Detroit proper while her Republican counterpart is determined to get some urban voters on his side is a curious choice…
