Keiser men’s soccer earned their sixth straight win this afternoon with a 2-0 win at Webber International. The Seahawks scored a goal in each half and logged their fourth consecutive shutout of the season. The squad will now turn their attention to a rematch this Wednesday versus No. 1 St. Thomas.
- Keiser picked up right where they left off last weekend, with an aggressive approach out of the gate
- The Seahawks took two shots and a corner kick in the opening four minutes of the match
- After two more KU shots missed the net, a free kick from Ian Garnero was sent into the middle of the box, where Francis Bolland headed it past the keeper and into the net to give Keiser the lead in the 20th minute
- Keiser was unable to produce any more shots in the first half, but the score remained unchanged as the Keiser defense stifled the Warriors, with Santiago Nebot and the Seahawk backline turning away seven shots in the remaining 25 minutes of the half
- After the break, fouls and yellow cards by Keiser slowed the Seahawk momentum, but a header shot from WIU in the 52nd minute sailed wide to keep the lead in favor of KU
- In the 59th minute, Mikael Baisotti had an opportunity to put Keiser up by two goals, but the attempt was saved by the WIU goalkeeper
- Six minutes later, after a WIU foul gave Keiser possession, a perfectly placed free kick by Baisotti was headed into the goal by Jakob Schnitzler to give Keiser the 2-0 lead, and Schnitzler’s seventh point of the year
- Keeping the pressure on, Keiser put four shots and a corner kick on the board in the ensuing six minutes
- The Warriors fought to get on the scoreboard late, but Nebot and the Keiser defense denied three shots in the final eight minutes to preserve the shutout
- The Seahawks are now 9-4 at Warrior Grass Field and have won the last 17 games versus WIU
- Reigning NAIA Defensive Player of the Week Santiago Nebot picked up his 30th career win, second most all-time in Keiser history and eight wins behind the top spot
- Nebot took ownership of Keiser’s career shutout record (18)
- The Seahawks outshot the Warriors 16-13
- Mikael Baisotti picked up his ninth point of the year, tied with the team lead
- This was Keiser’s fifth shutout of the season and the 96th in the history of Keiser men’s soccer
- With the win, head coach Gavin Oldham improves to 93-26-14 (57-10-5 SUN) and 13-0 versus Webber International
