LORAIN — When a house fire breaks out in Lorain, it is considered an “all call” — firefighters from all four stations converge on the scene, rolling out hoses, tapping into hydrants and combating the blaze.

Then, as quickly as they arrive, they leave. And the families affected by the fire are left to pick up the pieces.

Capt. Ryan Bowers said Lorain firefighters are aggressive in fighting fires, they are highly trained and handle more calls than neighboring cities. But what always struck him was when firefighters pack up their trucks and go back to the station, they leave families devastated by loss…
