There can be gloomy moments in local sports journalism these days. Times when you ask yourself if this pursuit is still worthwhile.

Everything is so fractured now. Attention spans are so short and divided. The greatest story ever told must compete with a YouTube clip of someone trying to get a golden retriever to chase a tennis ball into a pool. The golden retriever will always get more clicks.
