APD: 2-year-old dies from gunshot wound at SE apartment

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Albuquerque police are investigating a shooting after they say a toddler was killed in a southeast area apartment Sunday afternoon. According to APD, officers responded to the apartment near Gibson and Yale around 3:00 p.m. after 911 calls say a gunshot was heard.

Police say several people were in the apartment at the time but do not know what led up to a gun being fired. First responders found a two-year-old boy had been shot in the chest and later pronounced him dead after attempting CPR.

APD says they are still in the very early stages of the investigation and are still piecing together interviews to determine exactly what happened. “Our detectives, whether they’re homicides or crimes against children, they’re very thorough, and our criminalistics folks are really going to look and dig through everything and try to get to the bottom of this,” said APD spokesperson Gilbert Gallegos, Jr. “It might be a tragic accident, we just don’t know at this point. One way or another, it’s a tragedy because a two-year-old boy lost their life to gun violence.”…
