Commisioners to mull giving low-income residents property tax rebates

The county commissioners will hold a public hearing in January 2025 about offering a property tax rebate to low-income residents.

The rebate is not state-mandated and only two New Mexico counties do this currently, Santa Fe and Los Alamos, according to the New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department.

“Counties may institute a property tax rebate for their low-income residents who file a return and incur a property tax liability on their principal place of residence during the tax year and who are not dependents of other persons,” the department explains at https://www.tax.newmexico.gov/…
