We are off to a cold start this morning with temperatures below freezing. We should see most areas warm into the upper 30s/lower 40s this afternoon, though. Our weak clipper system will move through this evening, focusing between 3-8pm. A quick burst of rain changing to snow is possible!
Our Futureview shows snow starting as soon as early-afternoon across the northern MD and southern PA Piedmont region. We will likely see the most concise area of snow focused between Harrisburg, PA and Baltimore, MD. Rain showers may start down south by mid-afternoon. However, as colder air rushes in this evening, any rain (yes, even down south) could quickly change over to snow around sunset.
A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for a narrow corridor from Frederick, MD to Baltimore, MD over to the southern Philadelphia, PA suburbs. This is where snow could total up to 1-2″ on the grass. While roadway accumulations will be tough, some travel impacts on the evening commute will be possible in this purple zone. I would not be surprised to see this advisory expanded to later include parts of Lancaster and York counties in southern PA.
Up north is where heavy snow is the most likely to total up to 1-2″. Elsewhere, a quick coating to half-inch of snow is possible. Again, many areas south of Baltimore may start as some rain showers. But the cooling winds this evening (mainly after 4pm) may allow for a quick hour or two of snow…
