WASHINGTON (7News) — After a sunny and cool start to the holiday week, the First Alert Weather Team is already tracking the next weather maker.
It is a rather weak and moisture-starved system, but its arrival at the DMV during the coldest part of the day could lead to some early travel disruptions. Therefore, the First Alert Weather Team has issued a WINTER ALERT for Tuesday morning lasting through 1 p.m.
Temperatures will drop below freezing Monday evening and remain well past sunrise Tuesday as a storm moves through the Great Lakes region and heads to the Northeast. Here at home, we will be just close enough to that storm to get a small chance of some sleet, snow, and freezing rain in the first half of Tuesday.
Widespread travel issues are unlikely but using some extra caution when traveling, particularly in the morning, is still a good idea. A few slick spots are possible on untreated roads and elevated surfaces like bridges and overpasses.
Temperatures will eventually get back above 40 by afternoon so the area of concern for the potpourri of wintry weather is small.
Temperatures will climb by afternoon making for safer travel for last-minute Christmas Eve shopping…
