MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Thunderstorms will continue to track eastward through this evening, ending around 9pm. Heavy rain and gusty winds at times are the main concern, but an isolated severe storm is possible as well – mainly in north Mississippi. That is where the tornado watch is currently in place.
Cold air will filter in quickly behind the line of storms, setting us up for a week of freezing temperatures.
Gusty northwest winds will drop us into the mid to high 20s by early Monday, but it will feel more like mid to high teens. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph Sunday.
Strong Sunday storms in forecast; Big freeze coming
There is some potential for any spots on the roads that don’t dry overnight Sunday to become slick by sunrise Monday. The highest risk is on bridges, which ice before the road.
This issue should not be widespread, but it’s something to keep in mind for your morning commute. With some wraparound moisture as the storm departs, we’ll likely see some flurries or light snow showers Monday morning, but there won’t be any accumulation…
