Man who survived gunfight with police in Kan. is going to prison

JOHNSON COUNTY —A man found guilty for shooting a Kansas City, Kansas, police officer is going to prison.

Jesse J. Flaugher, 37, was sentenced last week to more than 20 years in prison, according to the Johnson County District Attorney’s office.

On December 15, 2020, an exchange of gunfire occurred between Flaugher and Officer Daniel Vance who had contacted him in Overland Park, Kansas. The officer was struck by gunfire in the arm and ballistic vest.

Flaugher originally refused to stop for officers who attempted to pull him over in Kansas City, Kansas, when he was seen driving without a seatbelt on. Instead, he ran a stop sign but was hit by another vehicle. Despite the crash Flaugher continued to speed away…
