Wind gusts pick up overnight in Northern Utah, temperatures expected to plummet

SALT LAKE CITY– Areas along the Wasatch Front saw some strong wind gusts overnight Wednesday into Thursday morning.

Hat Island on the Great Salt Lake registered a 69 mph gust while Point of the Mountain saw a gust of 55 mph. I-80 near Lake Point saw a 56 mph gust and a 51 mph gust was registered not far from the Salt Lake Airport. Weber Canyon saw wind gusts up to 45 mph.

KSL Meteorologist Matt Johnson said the winds came because of a storm system in Idaho. He also expects the winds to lose strength Thursday afternoon, but won’t die down completely…
