This Advent and Christmastide have felt so different from past years. Moving to a new city, in a new state, and stepping into a new career has made this season both a whirlwind of activity and a time for deep reflection.
As new clergy, I find myself cherishing the years I spent with my family during the holidays even more. The familiar traditions, the comfort of shared moments, and the grounding sense of home that I experienced in those years now feel like a precious gift that prepared me for this new chapter.
This season also marks six months since I joined St. James’ and became part of the East Austin community. It’s hard to believe how quickly time has flown, but I can honestly say that these months have been transformative. I’ve always felt that the high holy days, particularly Advent and Christmas, are a time of special bonding for me, especially when I’m in a new place. The beauty of the liturgy, the warmth of shared meals, and the deep sense of anticipation for Christ’s coming always seem to foster meaningful connections…
