Cold front brings rain and storms this afternoon, much colder weather tonight

FORT MYERS, Fla. — A strong cold front will dive southward along the Gulf Coast today, bringing rain and storms to the area this afternoon and ushering in a shot of much colder air for tonight and tomorrow.

We’ll start our Wednesday with a warm and muggy morning ahead of the front. Temperatures at sunrise will mainly hold in the 70s under partly to mainly sunny skies, about 10-15 degrees above average for today. Despite cloudy skies and a strong south wind temperatures will manage to reach the upper 70s and low 80s this afternoon before the front arrives.

A line of downpours and storms will arrive with the front in our northern counties shortly after 12 noon, spreading south and westward from there. Looks for the storms to track through Lee County between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. then, exiting south out of Collier County between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. Brief heavy rain will be possible, though the quick moving nature of the downpours and storms will keep rain totals fairly low, with most spots seeing less than half an inch of rain.
