MATLACHA, Florida — Two dolphins stranded in a shallow water lagoon near Matlacha were successfully rescued by a coordinated effort involving multiple agencies. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit, alongside biologists from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), responded to the scene after witnesses reported the stranded dolphins late Monday night.The lagoon, with a depth of only 2 to 3 feet at high tide, posed significant challenges for the dolphins, who were unable to escape due to the shallow water trails leading to open water.
