LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Fred Zwonecheck, widely recognized as the former face of highway safety in Nebraska, has passed away.

According to his obituary, Fred died at his home unexpectedly in late October at 77 years old.

He was born in Omaha and spent his childhood in DeWitt, where he went trapping, worked as a lifeguard in nearby Beatrice and mowed lawns…
